Contrary to popular belief, sports massage is not a painful experience, and will not leave you covered in bruises – that is the sign of a bad massage!
On your first treatment, you will be asked to wear loose fitting clothing and shorts. I will conduct a full postural assessment, medical record and discuss any pain or injury you are suffering. You will be covered with towels to keep you warm, ensuring only the area that needs treating to be exposed. I will then treat the problem and surrounding areas of pain/tension, and investigate any underlying issues that could be causing injury. Although sometimes this may feel uncomfortable, I will work with you to ensure that any discomfort felt will be comfortably within your pain range.
Often people visit me when they are in a lot of pain, and this will not always be limited to one area. I may ask you to complete a ‘pain form’ so we can identify the following:
- Areas of pain
- Which areas of pain are related
- Which area of pain is causing you the most discomfort
I will then focus that treatment on what is causing you the most discomfort. The treatment time will be approximately 45 minutes.
At the end of the treatment I may recommend to you to carry out some ‘homework’ in the form of strengthening exercises or stretches and nutritional advice, which will aid and speed up your recovery.
